🌻Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2019

Credits to whoever started this tag, you’re great.

1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019

OOH, that’s a great question. Two books so far : Unpregnant by Jenni Hendriks and Ted Caplan and The Wicked King by Holly Black. These two were not only beautifully written but also SO MUCH FUN to get through and I think that sometimes, I get a little bit too obsessed with achieving my reading goal that I forget how fun reading is when you’re plunged head first into the best fiction ever.

2. BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019.

Oops I’m repeating myself (already) but The Wicked King by Holly Black. I’m relatively new to Holly’s writing but she’s never disappointed me and TWK was an absolute blast to read.

3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO.

OOF. So many books, so little time, right ? Check out my Top 10 New Releases of 2019 here. If I had to pick one, it’d be…

4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo !!! It comes out on October 1st and I’m sooo excited.

5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT.

6. BIGGEST SURPRISE.

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I didn’t think I would enjoy her books as much as I did. Also, the Wall of Winnipeg and Me was an absolute treat to read.

7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU).

Okay so I said Holly Black already but I also read the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing style completely won me over.

8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH.

Daemon Black from Obsidian, I said it. He’s stuck somewhere between being insufferable and really attractive.

9. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER.

Louise Le Blanc from Serpent & Dove because she’s an Absolute Badass.

10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, for sure. Didn’t expect that ending to hit me like a train but it did.

11. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY.

Unpregnant by Jenni and Ted and The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven. Although both of these are outside my comfort zone (I don’t tend to read contemporaries YA), I’m just so happy these books exist.

12. FAVORITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION YOU SAW THIS YEAR.

I haven’t seen any !

13. FAVORITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR.

I really liked writing the review for Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin and The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven. I think it’s because I enjoyed the themes tackled in these books and even though I didn’t always enjoy EVERYTHING about it, they just resonated with me a lot.

14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)

The Priory of the Orange Tree by  Samantha Shannon ! The book is huge but so pretty. And King Of Scars by Leigh Bardugo… ALL THAT GOLD.

15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

Ohhh so many books. I really want to finish a few series like Lux, The Raven Cycle, All For The Game, Vampire Academy etc. I also want to keep up with new releases which I know I will fail because I’m not very good at being organized.

That’s it for today ! I know this is a pretty old tag and I think most people have done it ! What’s a great book you’ve read so far this year ?

The Epic Reads Tag

I found this tag on the blog @ Adventures Of A Bookish Girl but it was originally created by Margot from Epic Reads

#1 IF YOU COULD INVITE ONE AUTHOR AND ONE OF THEIR FICTIONAL CHARACTERS TO LUNCH, WHO WOULD YOU INVITE AND WHAT WOULD YOU SERVE THEM?

At first, I was gonna say that I would invite Leigh Bardugo and Kaz Brekker (just to see them interact and have a conversation and I’d serve them waffles) but you know what ? I’d invite Stephenie Meyer and Bella Swan. It would potentially be hell for me (since Bella is pretty much me circa 2011 aka obsessed with vampires and angsty af) but I’d want Stephenie to be confronted to what she created.

#2 WHAT BOOK DO YOU WISH THE AUTHOR WOULD WRITE A PREQUEL FOR?

They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera ! I wish I knew why the world came to having Death-Cast and because I’m a lover of all-things chaos.

#3 WHICH TWO CHARACTERS (NOT FROM THE SAME BOOK) WOULD MAKE A GOOD COUPLE?

I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS FOR SO LONG AND I CANT COME UP WITH ANYTHING WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME.

#4 IF YOU RAN INTO YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR ON THE SUBWAY AND ONLY COULD SAY ONE SENTENCE TO THEM, WHO IS IT AND WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Leigh Bardugo and I would just say that I love her. I’m not good at speaking up when it comes to feelings so I probably wouldn’t be able to say anything else without collapsing.

#5 WHAT BOOK MADE YOU A READER AND WHY?

Okay, give credit where credit is due and all that, right ? So Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight tends to come up quite often in my head and I’m not ashamed of having loved it as much as I did when the series came out. I’m forever thankful to that series because it truly is the one that got me into reading and I probably wouldn’t be the same without it. Even though I have no clue what attracted me to the characters (no, I mean it, I’m at a loss), I respect my past choices.

#6 YOUR BOOKSHELF JUST CAUGHT FIRE. SHOW THE BOOK YOU’D SAVE.

Oh fuck. I’m saving my Kindle, there I said it. Fine, yes, this is cheating but honestly there are no old editions on my bookshelves and my life is worth more (am I getting to deep about this ? who cares ?) My Kindle has it all I’m keeping it.

#7 WHICH DYSTOPIAN WORLD WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE ONE? WHY?

Oof. Truth be told, probably none of them because they are all deeply messed up.

#8 WHAT IS YOUR MOST EPIC READ OF ALL TIME?

1984 by George Orwell : this book…. wow, what can I say ? Even though it’s far from being a favorite, I just love that it stuck with me and made me question so much. I love books that just keep on floating in your head and 1984 did that for me.

Readers Problems (Tag #3)

I don’t exactly know who created this tag but I found it on Anushka @ Going Through Books !

I didn’t know that having a reading slump came hand in hand with having a blogging slump. I’ve been really bad, I’ll admit it, I’m sorry. With exams coming up, it’s a bit harder for me to post regularly !

1. You have 20,000 books in your TBR, how in the world do you decide what to read next?

I pick between 3 and 6 books and I start to read them. Strangely enough, I’m better at handling my TBR if I’m picking/reading several books at a time.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you put it down or are you committed?

I have a really hard time DNF-ing books I don’t like, especially if it has good reviews because I’ve had the experience of wanting to put down the book, kept on reading it and it eventually got better. If I’m halfway, chances are I will finish it but who knows ? If I truly hate it, I won’t keep going.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re behind on your reading challenge, do you try to catch up? And if so, how?

Either I will read some graphic novels, since they’re easier to get through or I’ll fail 🙂 I don’t really care about failing my reading challenge. Sure it’s ugly on my Goodreads account but other than that, it doesn’t matter.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match, how do you cope?

I hate it but I also… don’t care ? For example, I was reading Vampire Academy and the covers were matching until I bought Blood Promise with this ugly red cover and it got under my skin for a couple minutes. Then I got over it. The covers don’t really matter, I just wanna read.

5. Everyone and their mother loves a book that you do not. Who do you bond with over your shared feelings?

My best friend ! I feel like we have pretty similar reading tastes and even if she loves and I hate a book (humhum ACOTAR humhum), we can generally agree on some points we think are great/not-so-great.

6. You’re reading a book in public and you’re about to start crying. How do you deal?

I don’t start crying. I physically cannot start crying if I’m in public. Not happening. Hypothetically, if that book was life-changing, I’d either put it down and save it for later or just start crying, and get it over with. Who cares ?

7. The sequel to a book you loved just came out but you’ve forgotten a lot of what happens. Are you going to reread it?

Probably not. I’ll either watch a review on Booktube of said book and if that doesn’t trigger anything, I might re-read it.

8. You do not want anyone to borrow your books, how do you politely say no when someone asks?

“I’m sorry, I don’t like to let people borrow my books. It’s probably because of that girl in 7th grade who NEVER returned my Princess Diaries copies.”

9. You have picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over this reading slump?

Oh, did you mean : me right now ? I have no idea. I’m probably gonna be picking up 5 books at the same time and see how it goes. Just dive in, you know ?

10. There are so many books coming out that you are dying to read, how many do you end up buying?

I wait. My wallet is pretty empty at the moment, which is why I’m on a book-buying ban (and actually succeeding !!!).

11. After you purchase all of these books that you’re dying to read how long do they sit on your shelves before you get to them?

Well I bought QOAAD in December and… I still haven’t gotten to it. So probably between three and four months !

THE TBR TAG (#2)

Tag created by @ A Perfection Called Books

1. How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
❤I use Goodreads ! Otherwise, I’d have no freaking idea what to read next. I used to just buy the books I wanted and write them down on a notebook.

2. Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?
❤It’s mostly print but I’ve just bought a Kindle this year and I started to buy ebooks which imo is amazing.

3. A Book That’s Been On Your TBR List The Longest
❤It’s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou ! I’ve been wanting to read this for the longest time but I guess I never really got the opportunity ?

4. A Book You Recently Added To Your TBR
❤Maybe In Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid. After reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I can’t wait to give her other books a try !

5. A Book In Your TBR Strictly Because of Its Beautiful Cover
❤Anything by Emma Mills ! I have no idea what her books are about but I thought the cover were really pretty although they’re pretty simple.

6. A Book On Your TBR That You Never Plan on Reading
❤If I never plan on reading it… it’s not on my TBR. There’s no point haha.

7. An Unpublished Book on Your TBR That You’re Excited For
❤There are so many !!! Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (released October 1st 2019) is a book I’m super excited to read !

8. A Book On Your TBR That Basically Everyone’s Read But You
❤Circe by Madeline Miller. I don’t actually know if everyone has read it but I keep hearing about it ! Oh and everything Shakespeare has ever written.

9. A Book On Your TBR That Everyone Recommends To You

❤Probably all of them… I’ve been in the mood for classics lately so Shakespeare and Jane Austen are the books I wanna grab.

11. How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
❤As of now it’s 450 books ! I’m trying to not add too many because I actually want to make a dent in this never-ending TBR !!

That’s it for today !

The 20 Questions Book Tag (#1)

Tag created by Bydebook on Goodreads

1° How many books is too many books in a book series?

❤I would say more than 5 is too much but if it’s really good, I might keep going til book 7.

2° How do you feel about cliffhangers?

❤I kind of have a love/hate relationships with themExhibit A : I hated with a passion the cliffhanger at the end of Catching Fire. The main reason for that was because I didn’t have Mockingjay. As long as I have the next book in hands, I don’t mind !

3° Hardcopy or paperback?

❤The cheap bitch in me wants to say paperback and I do mean it. But hardcopies feel so special and beautiful and when I have one in my hands, I feel like I’m holding something really unique. I almost don’t have any.

4° Favorite book?

❤Six of Crows Duology. I’m honestly quite bad at picking a favorite but based on my pure enjoyment of it, SoC wins. every time. no questions asked.

5° Least favorite book?

❤Is it bad that I have no answer ? I don’t think I’ve ever hated a book with a passion. Maybe the Matched Series ?

6° Love triangles, yes or no?

❤By principle, no. I’ve read about them enough. Come on, let’s stop. A love triangle DOES NOT make a story more interesting. It mostly adds unnecessary drama and it’s overdone. However, if they’re as beautifully done as the one in The Infernal Devices, heck yes.

7° The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

❤The Darkest Minds ! Maybe because I tried to read it in French and something got lost in translation ? The female MC was insufferable.

8° A book you’re currently reading ?

❤City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. It’s actually a re-read before getting to the monster that is Queen of Air and Darkness.

9° Last book you recommended to someone?

❤Six Of Crows to my best friend Holly (you can follow her there !). Still waiting for her to pick it up though.

10° Oldest book you’ve read?

❤The Odyssey by Homer was published in 720 BC !

11° Newest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

❤The Wicked King by Holly Black (such a great book!) was publish Jan. 8th 2019 !

12° Favorite author?

❤Leigh Bardugo. Not only did she write my favorite books of all-time, I really like her as a person. She never hesitates to be very open about certain issues and I think she’s really talented !

13° Buying books or borrowing books?

❤BUYING BOOKS ! I love to have them in my possession. *insert Gollum crouching over books saying my precious*

14° A book you dislike that everyone else seem to love?

❤A Court of Thorns and Roses ? Or Always and Forever, Lara Jean ? I just couldn’t get on board with these.

15° Bookmarks or dog-ears?

❤Bookmarks BUT I do dog-ear books when I don’t have a choice *gasp*

16° A book you can always reread?

❤Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ! I love this book so much and there’s always more to pick up on !

17° Can you read while hearing music?

❤Sure ! It’s actually what I do when I’m in the subway and I don’t want to hear people complaining or couples being disgustingly cute.

18° One POV or multiple POV’s?

❤I love multiple POV’s ! Not too many though otherwise it’s hard to keep up.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

❤Over multiple days. I’m a college student so I don’t really have the time to read it in one sitting.

20° Who do you tag?

❤Um. Awkward I don’t have any friends. Anyone who wants to do this tag I guess ?

That’s it for today !
