Let Me Gush About Brooklyn 9-9

In “Let Me Gush About”, I talk about TV shows or movies that have changed my life one way or the other and that I would like to share with you ! DON’T GET THIS ARTICLE WRONG !!! THIS IS NOT A REVIEW. ITS JUST ME GUSHING ABOUT SOMETHING I LOVE PASSIONATELY.

Today, I’ll be discussing Brooklyn 9-9 and my never ending love for Andy Samberg.

What is this show about ?

Brooklyn 9-9 follows the life of the detectives of Brooklyn’s 99th Precinct. Watching Brooklyn 9-9 has been a game-changer in my life. It reminded me of things I tend to forget : to be hopeful, ambitious and brave. I think that too often, people (the ones who don’t know what it’s like to be overly invested in the lives of fictional characters and absorb their personalities) look down on TV shows, or literature, as just this “thing” that helps them pass the time. But TV shows and books alike have had a huge impact on my life. And Brooklyn 9-9 keeps on doing that. The way this show excels at balancing comedic timing with heavy topics is simply brilliant.

Brooklyn 9-9 is a show that educates without ever being condescending or belittling. It’s a show that, in my opinion, is deeply rooted in love and it shows. It reminded me to be unapologetically myself but also to not shy away from caring. It taught me about trauma and that not dealing with it is NOT EASIER.

The Characters

Jake Peralta, a goofy, caring, frat-boy type of character that’s actually Really Not what you think he is gonna be. basically the only man i stan.

Amy Santiago, an ambitious, organized Queen (she’s also latina) who’s not afraid to go after what she wants but is also Soft AF.

Rosa Diaz, a fierce, badass, bisexual latina (her arc, yall, her ARC)

GINA LINETTI. God, does she need an introduction ??? Simply put, a Goddess.

damn right.

Raymond Holt , the captain of the 99th precinct (he is also black and gay and an Icon

Charles Boyle, a smol bean who loves to talk about cuisine and be Soft but is the most dedicated friend you could ask for.

Terry Jeffords (a black lieutenant, father of two kids, he loves yogurt)

Scully and Hitchcock because yes, they’re a pair. you can’t have one without the other. facts : they’re a whole mess but then again, so am i.

I’m glad this show exists because it’s inclusive and diverse and real. It’s okay to be yourself, whoever you are. It’s okay to want things from life, to want more. It’s okay to care and to love and to give and it’s okay to receive.

Do you watch Brooklyn 9-9 ? Tell me what you think !

  1. Totally agree with you about how some people don’t understand that things like books, movies, and TV shows can be a highly impactful form of escapism. And, YES, every single B99 character is my favourite! Brooklyn Nine-Nine truly is the best 💖
P.S. We need more unproblematic men like Jake Peralta in this world.

    • Noa

B99 is the best I cannot argue with that! I’ve always used tv shows etc to “escape” and I simply hate it when people look down on doing that! (THE WORLD WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE IF WE DEALT W MEN LIKE JAKE PERALTA)
